للاسم علامات لفظية، منها:

الْخَفْض: وهو في اللغة: ضد الارتفاع.

وفي
اصطلاح النحاة: عبارة عن الكسرة التي يُحْدِثُهَا الْعامل أوْ ما ناب عنها.

والتعبير
بالخفض هذا مذهب كوفي، وأما البصريون فيقولون: الجر، ومعناهما واحد، فلا مشاحة في
الاصطلاح.

التَّنْوِين: وهو في اللغة: التَّصْويت، تقول: (نَوَّنَ الطَّائِرُ) أي: صَوَّتَ.

وفي
اصطلاح النُّحَاة هو: نُونٌ ساكنةٌ تّتْبَعُ آخِرَ الاسم لفظًا وتفارقهُ خَطًّا؛
للاستغناء عنها بِتَكْرَارِ الشَّكلة عند الضبْطِ بالقلم.

دخول (أل)، ويشمل(أل) جميع أقسامها: أل التعريف، والزائدة والموصولة.

دخول حُرُوفِ الْخَفْضِ، وحروف الجر أنواع فبعضها على حرف واحد، وهي: الباء والكاف
واللام والواو والتاء، وبعضها على حرفين، وهي: من وعن وفي، ومذ.

وبعضها
وضع على ثلاثة أحرف: إلى وعلى ورب، ومنذ.

وللاسم علامة معنوية، وهي:

الإسناد إليه، وهي أنفع علامات الاسم كما قال ابن هشام رَحِمَهُ الله؛ لأنه استُدل
بها على اسمية التاء في (ضربتُ).

ومعنى
الإسناد إليه: أن يُسنَد إليه فعل أو اسم.

الفعل
مسند، والفاعل مسند إليه.

المبتدأ

المجرورات ثلاثة: مجرور بالحرف، ومجرور بالاسم، ومجرور بالتبعية، ومنه: بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ، اجتمع فيها الثلاثة.
علمًا أن بعضهم لا يعد المجرور بالتبعية قسمًا، بناءً على أن العامل في التابع هو العامل في المتبوع لا التبعية.
ذكر بعض حروف الجر، والإشارة إلى بعض معانيها:
- (من) الجارة لها عدة معاني منها: الابتداء.
- (إلى) من معانيها انتهاء الغاية.
- (عن) من معانيها المجاوزة، أي: المباعدة والمفارقة، وهذا هو الأصل في (عن) أنها للمجاوزة.
- (على) من معانيها الاستعلاء.
- (في) من معانيها الظرفية، وهذا أصل معاني (في)، وهو لغة: الوعاء، واصطلاحًا: كون الشيء في المجرور بها. كما في «لب اللباب»(1/461).
- (رُبَّ) تفيد تقليل الشيء.
- (الباء) من معانيها التعدية، أي تعدية الفعل القاصر.
- (الكاف) من معانيها التشبيه.
- (اللام) لها عدة معان، منها الملك، وضابطها: أن تقع بين ذاتين وتدخل على من يملك.
والاختصاص، وضابطها: أن تقع بين ذاتين، ولكنها تدخل على ما لا يملك.
والاستحقاق، وضابطها: أن تقع بين معنى وذات، وتدخل على من يستحق.
ومن حروف الخفض حروف القسم، وهي ثلاثة:
- (الواو) تدخل على الاسم الظاهر فقط.
- (الباء) تدخل على الظاهر والمضمر.
- (التاء) لا تدخل إلا على لفظ الجلالة.
الاسم ينقسم إلى قسمين ظاهر ومضمر:
 الظاهر ما يدل على المراد منه بدون حاجة إلى قرينة تكلم أو خطاب أو غَيبة.
والضمير: ما لا يدل على المراد منه إلا بقرينة تكلم أو خطاب أو غَيبة.
